Potato Minitubers
All nuclear seed is produced in our greenhouses from plants that are propagated within our laboratory. Seed potato crops are generally harvested between May and December, and placed in cold storage units until ready for shipping the following spring.
We offer two types of minituber products:
* Larger sized seed that is sold by the pound:
For seed sold by the pound, the material is generally between 1" and 2 ½". For customer convenience, we sort our seed into two size categories – medium and large. Medium is generally 8 to 35 grams in size, large is generally 36 to 60 grams in size. We do not individually count orders that are sold by the pound.
* Smaller sized seed that is sold by the piece: (Case by Case Basis)
For seed sold by the piece, the material is generally between ½" to 1" in diameter. The minimum size is between 3 gm and 8 gm. For customers who order by the piece, we manage the crop so that the tubers will hopefully stay within this small size category. We hand count all tubers when an order is placed by the piece. If necessary, medium (or even large) inventory may be counted to complete the order.

Mint Field Transplants

All mint material we produce for field transplanting originates from proprietary line selections.
Mint propagation for customer’s orders is accomplished within our laboratory. Lab conditions offer controlled lighting and temperatures, which allow us to rapidly increase the needed quantity of plants under sterile conditions. Once these small, uniform “plantlets” have grown leaves and roots, they are moved to our greenhouses for finishing. The plantlets are transplanted into sterile, soil-less potting mix in standard nursery flats. After approximately 4 to 6 weeks, they are ready for shipping. Plant height above the root ball is approximately 3 to 5 inches, with a root mass that is 1 ¼” x 1 ½” x 2 inches. All material at our facility is disease - indexed.
Hops Field Transplants
Hops are a perennial specialty crop grown primarily for the beer brewing industry. Establishing a hop yard requires a significant investment of time and money, especially for trellising materials and harvesting equipment. Hops usually are not harvested their first year, since they produce mature yields after 2-3 years. Once established, hop plants may be in production for over 50 years. It is therefore critical to establish yards with healthy plants free from diseases that can significantly lower quality and yields, requiring the plants to be replaced after only a few years.
At Summit Plant Labs, field-ready hop transplants are grown from laboratory propagated material. Once these laboratory "plantlets" have generated a few leaves and small roots, they are ready to be moved into our greenhouses for finishing. Sterile, soil-less potting mix inoculated with mycorrhiza and standard sized nursery 72-cell flats are used.
After approximately 4 to 6 weeks within the greenhouse, they are suitable for shipping to farms in the contiguous U.S. Hop plugs have a height above the root ball that is approximately 4-10 inches, and a root mass that is 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 2 inches. First year hops transplanted mid-May in the field typically grow to heights of 10-20 feet if trellised. Hops can be transplanted throughout the summer, right up until the first frost date.
Our sterile laboratory and greenhouse techniques assures plant protection from major and minor hop fungal, virus, viroid and bacterial diseases. All of our hop lines have tested negative for the following important hop viroid and viruses:
VIROIDS: Hop Stunt Viroid (HSVd)
VIRUSES: Hop Latent Virus (HLV), Hop Mosaic Virus (HMV), American Hop Latent Virus (AHLV), Apple Mosaic Virus (ApMV), Arabis Mosaic Virus (ArMV)
